FISS Jan 2010

Jan 2010

With the start of not only a new year but a new decade, The Way to Win is excited to be heading into its 11th year!

Over the years I have seen so many teams "Fizzle Out" (miss the mark, to end in a disappointing way) as the season goes on...teams that began with so much talent and expectations towards a winning season!

Fissile: Is one that is capable of sustaining a chain reaction. So if we maintain our actions on & off the court in a positive supportive way...the chain reaction to all the players & parents should result in a positive outcome. Is the glass half full or half empty? Do you focus on the missed shot or the great hustle for the offensive rebound?

With our Teams I choose to focus on how we play the game & live our lives in a positive way on & off the court. As my Dad always said, "you have a 50-50% chance of getting what you want if you ask, 0% if you never ask. If you do ask, it goes up to 80% for having the courage and confidence to work towards what you believe is right."

FISS: Fear, Impact, Scoreboard, Success

Fear: If we can reduce the fear in our lives on & off the court we can accomplish more than we ever dreamed possible! We are willing to take the open shot, take a chance on defense, make the phone call for the new job, ask the boy to the dance and be there when our friends need us.

Impact: It's not always what I do but who I am that makes a difference in people's lives...being unselfish and always giving more then I take. You never know how the small things help others on & off the court!

Scoreboard: Is not a reflection of our self worth or our values. How we treat each other and how we win the game should always come first.

Success:  is different for everyone. You could play the best game of your life and lose on the scoreboard but feel like you won the game. We are so proud of the players that have left our program and are making a difference in our Communities.

One player volunteers at a Mission to help feed the hungry, others are teachers, some are coaching at the High School & College Level etc. They will all tell you that it is about Repetition, Hard Work, Team Work & Friendships that make you successful in life.

If any of these Ideas break down...we start to see our Teams fizzle out on & off the court. Remember that we should always care more about people then we do about winning!

Each Day make it your goal to make a difference in someone's life!

Have a great year!
